Upheal is on a mission to transform therapy documentation for mental health professionals, including therapists, psychiatrists, and coaches. We're dedicated to helping them avoid burnout, enhance clinical decision-making, and foster professional growth. We have secured seed funding and are looking for a talented Data Scientist passionate about making a meaningful difference in the mental health space.

The opportunity:

Good therapy documentation requires experimentation, identification, and correct usage of data and aspects coming from different sources combined with application of the latest research and methodologies in psychotherapy space. Domain-specific expertise in psychotherapy is not required - we provide it. You will be deepening your skills on-the-job, broadening your expertise through constant innovation in the start-up environment on the growth trajectory. This combined with customers’ feedback provides excellent ground for your personal growth.

How we work:

  • We synergize traditional NLP techniques with state-of-the-art LLMs to generate therapy documentation that requires minimal manual editing.
  • Our toolbox includes SpaCy, Prodigy, prompt engineering, vector-indexes, RAGs, and agents for implementing traditional NLP and LLM techniques.
  • We utilize a unique dataset of thousands of therapy session texts to develop data, algorithms, solutions, and evaluations.
  • Our psychotherapy domain experts are deeply involved in all aspects of the AI process - from design and implementation to evaluation.
  • We rely on a talented team of backend engineers to deploy and host our AI solutions.
  • We build in Python, run on Kubernetes, crunch data with Dbt, and monitor in BetterStack.

What you will do:

  • Design, develop, and implement end-to-end AI solutions for specific therapy insight or documentation tasks.
  • Research, prototype, and apply the latest discoveries and methods in AI, staying at the forefront of innovation.
  • Immerse yourself in the mental health domain, gaining valuable insights into the inner workings of psychotherapy.
  • Make a significant impact on our product and the lives of therapists, as part of our close-knit startup team.

What we require:

  • Proven experience in building end-to-end complex AI-based systems from experiments to scaled up solutions.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or another relevant field.
  • Strong software development skills and attention to detail when building modular code in Python.
